About me.
I’m a freelance writer and speaker, mum of three and a business owner based in the Clarence Valley, NSW, Australia.
I started my career as a high school Japanese and English teacher and now work for myself and also for independent publisher Lingopont doing a range of education, writing and marketing projects. I also have my own business Languages Roadshow - a professional development company for foreign languages teachers where I organised my own conferences from A-Z and then transitioned to be an online business. I didn’t really know at the time that it wasn’t normal to organise the entire conferences on your own and deliver the keynote and the workshop sessions. Wild times.
These days, when I’m invited to deliver a keynote or a workshop for an organisation, I can’t believe my luck that I get to turn up focus on a delivering a spot on the program and not also having to liaise with the venue staff about dietary requirements.
The spark for starting my business was my first maternity leave. I had time, imagination and a post-partum identity crisis I needed to do something about. That chance to step away from the career trajectory I was happily on as a teacher was transformative.
I’m a passionate advocate for promoting multilingualism in Australian schools. It’s not just because I know it’s amazing on a personal level to connect with people in other languages, it’s also because Australia experiences unquantifiable economic losses because of the dominance of the ‘English is enough’ mindset. I say plenty about this through my Languages Roadshow channels, so if this speaks to you, please check out my business page.
I have other passions though, too - business, business in the regions, motherhood and business, motherhood and creativity, supporting ND kids and families, life after teaching, running, gym, food and podcasts.
